‘When is Universal Studios United Kingdom’s opening date?’ has perhaps been the number one question on the lips of UK theme park fans in recent weeks.
Following the update posted to the Universal UK Project website that Comcast set up to host any information on the project, such as its interesting concept art, we got some more concrete information on when they expect the park to be open, and it doesn’t look like we’ll be waiting long.
According to the official press release, the park is slated to open in 2031 – that’s five and a half years away, which seems like a short period of time to turn nearly 500 acres of field into a fully functioning theme park, complete with a retail and dining district and a 500-room hotel, according to the plans.

With this in mind, the letter sent to residents by Comcast – Universal’s parent company – suggested that construction would start in 2026 if the planning permission for the park was approved, meaning it would take five years to go from nothing to a proper theme park. The President of new Ventures at Universal Destinations & Experiences iterated in a recent interview that Universal is looking to submit planning permission in the next couple of months, in the hope it will be granted before the end of 2025.
That may not seem like a long time, but it’s worth remembering that Universal initially unveiled Epic Universe in Florida in August 2019, before the park commenced construction during the pandemic, and is opening on May 22nd 2025 – a period of less than six years, according to Orlando Informer. There certainly is proof of concept of Universal being able to get things done rather quickly.
