Universal Studios United Kingdom Might Have A Lot Of Room For Expansion

Universal Studios United Kingdom is set to be placed on a 476-acre lot, although it looks as if the park, based on the official concept art, won’t necessarily fill the entire space that was purchased, leaving lots of room for expansion.

That is, according to a render drawn up by Tommy Hawkins on X, which maps the park’s concept art onto the ‘master plan’ that Universal shared in 2024. You can see his sterling efforts below:

The white areas in the map on the right are denoted as being for expansion, given the obvious gaps left in the top left and bottom right corners, as well as across the back section behind the potential Waterworld attraction. There is also a small patch in the middle of the park, below what some believe to be the Back To The Future attraction.

Hawkins, in a different drawing, estimated this to be around 51 acres of land, as seen below. Judging by the previous BBC report of an insider mooting the likes of Harry Potter or Nintendo as potential options for expansion when the park is built, there seems to be enough space to accommodate.

There is also the question of the other land across the road from the park, which also forms part of Universal’s land. The BBC, in a separate article, discuss that Universal has the option of up to 700 acres of land, which they may purchase to help improve transport links. Of course, it already looks set that two train stations will serve the park.

On the ‘Phase 1 Indicative Master Plan’ document that Universal published back in 2024, a large portion of the land across the road was designated as ‘temporary construction’, although it is unclear what this may be. There is also a ‘restoration area’ and ‘landscape area’ surrounding that construction, perhaps for a more regenerative practice.

With this in mind, the land across from the theme park has also been designated for ‘Mixed Use’ in one of the master plan documents from 2024. It is unclear what this could be used for, whether it is earmarked for a future expansion of a water park or hotel, as Hawkins has suggested, or simply as a storage depot or extra space, as Universal already has in backstage areas at their other parks.
